Remember when we were told some kids were “auditory learners” and others were “visual learners”? Yeah… about that.

Brain science tells us that reading requires the same neurological process for everyone. The most successful classrooms don’t “match instruction to learning styles” they match instruction to how the brain learns.

That means:

  • Phonemic awareness comes before comprehension
  • Repetition and review are essential
  • Skills build from the bottom up (phonics → fluency → vocab → comprehension)
  • No more guessing strategies or memorizing words

It’s time to leave learning styles behind and teach ALL students with methods that work for the reading brain.

Structured literacy isn’t a trend, it’s the transformation our classrooms have been waiting for.
